The first person in my tree with this surname was Agnes Philp.

Agnes Philp married John Marr on 12 January 1812 in Dundee, Angus, Scotland.

Agnes died 6 May 1864 at Powie Place, Maxwelltown, Dundee, Angus, Scotland.  She was buried at the Howff Burial Ground in Dundee. Her death certificate shows her parents were Thomas Philp and Agnes Sturrock.  Based on her age at the time of her death, she was born about 1791.

I have not been able to find a baptism record for Agnes, but I have found a marriage entry for Thomas Philp and Agnes Sturrock.  They were married 30 August 1777 in Abroath, Angus, Scotland.

I have not been able to find burial entries for Thomas or Agnes.  Without some idea of his age, and where he might have been born, I have not been able to determine which, if any, of the baptism entries I have found is for my Thomas Philp, so I have been unable to trace the Philp line any further back at this stage .
